Peninsula Singers Hold Pair of Mother’s Day Concerts

Join The Peninsula Singers on Mother’s Day weekend as Door County’s premier choir presents their biennial concerts, dedicated to the late Robert Oftedahl, long-time singer and member of the Board of Directors. Artistic Director Merle Colburn has chosen a variety of music to challenge the 60-voice choir, including a medley of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most familiar themes; Moses Hogan’s arrangement of the spiritual “Good News, Chariot’s Comin’” and “In Remembrance” by Eleanor Daley, performed in memory of the late Grace Okkerse, an early Peninsula Singers accompanist.

In a highlight of the concert, the New Day Singers will add their zest to “The American Spirit” by Mark Hayes. Each of its three movements begins with a narration, by bass-baritone Don Heeringa, telling of the American dream and westward expansion.

Concerts will be presented twice: at 7 pm on May 7 at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, and at 3 pm on May 8 at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. Admission is free, but contributions to the Singers are always welcome. For more information visit thepeninsulasingers.org.
