Peninsula Symphonic Band’s Holiday Concert

The Peninsula Symphonic Band will toast the season Dec. 8, 7 pm, when the 60-plus-member group will perform spirited holiday works, including an audience sing-along, under the direction of Jason Palmer. The performance will also include two selections by the Swingin’ Door Big Band.

The symphonic band’s program will include Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and several works by Chip Davis, who arranges music for Mannheim Steamroller.

“Each season, I try to find a work that will challenge our musicians – get them out of their comfort zone,” Palmer said. “This year it is a wonderful piece titled “Eighth Candle” – a reference to the menorah, which is lit by the Jewish people during Hanukkah. This particular piece is both reverent and festive, and it uses shifting meters, which is very different from your standard Sousa march.”

A free-will offering will be collected during the concert at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1756 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay. Visit peninsulasymphonicband.org to learn more, or email [email protected].
