    Dear Mary Pat, Halloween is here and it fills me with dread. I hate horror movies, but now that I’m in college, I can’t get away from them. Growing up, we were never allowed to watch scary movies thankfully, but ever since October 1st it’s been fright fest in my dorm.

    Last month, I had the opportunity to attend the first annual Celebrate Women luncheon hosted by the Women’s Fund of Door County. It was an enormously successful event attended by over 300 women (and 5 men) at the Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay.

    • The Door County Land Trust recently purchased property south of the Village of Egg Harbor. This acquisition adds 50 acres of meadow and forest to the Door County Land Trust’s Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve and protects over a half mile of open space along County Highway G.

    My dad planted a Schwedler Norway Maple in our front yard around 70 years ago. It was an extremely hardy fast-growing tree, and my dad claimed that nearly every seed of the tree that dropped to the ground, or was carried to various places on our large lot, sprouted.
