Pianist Performs at Bjِrkludnen’s Vail Hall

Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden will host a free concert August 30 at 8 pm.

Allen Bonde, pianist and composer, will perform a concert of his piano compositions including selections from “Reflections in the Spirit,” “A Page a Day for a Year and a Day,” “Through the Looking-Glass,” and “Theater Music.”

Bonde has performed in many venues, including Carnegie Recital Hall, the National Gallery of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Severance Chamber Hall. His performances have been described as “brilliant” (Washington Post) and “solid” (New York Times). Recorded and widely commissioned, his compositions have been performed throughout the world by such notables as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic brass principals. Bonde’s many honors include a Festival Casals Scholarship and a Yale Graduate Fellowship.

Additionally, Bonde had the distinction of being a Fellow at the Salzburg Seminar in American Studies. He was the first musician-in-residence at the Nanyang Technological University National Institute of Education in Singapore. He is professor emeritus of music at Mount Holyoke College where he taught a popular course titled Music in the American Musical: the Golden Age.

The performance will be held in Bjِrklunden’s Vail Hall. Entrance to the Bjِrklunden lodge is located on Highway 57, south of Baileys Harbor, across from Anschutz Plumbing.
