Skateboard Deck Auction Ends Friday

Those who are hoping for a public skateboard park in Sturgeon Bay have just a few days to help support the effort by bidding on the Skateboard Art Exhibit. Over twenty skateboard decks and longboards, hand-painted and donated by local artists, are on display at Glas, the Green Coffee House, 67 W. Maple Street on Sturgeon Bay’s west side.

“We have sold five of the decks outright at the ‘Buy it Now’ price and bidding is increasing on the others,” said Matt Young, the organizer of the fundraiser. The show will close at 7 pm on Friday, Jan. 27. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative invites everyone to join them from 5 – 7 pm to see the display, check bidding, and be on hand for the final count down.

Glas offers live music beginning at 6:30 pm with Jeanne Kuhns and Lost Mothra.

All money raised through the auction will help fund the construction of a public skatepark to be located next to the West Side Ball Field on Madison Avenue. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative is a group of skaters, parents and businesses that have teamed up with the Sturgeon Bay Park and Recreation Department to create a safe public place for skateboarders of all levels to recreate. BMX bikes will be welcomed at the skate park as well. For more information about the skatepark or the auction, call Matt Young at 920.559.6880 or Laurel Hauser at 920.743.8990. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark is a fund of the Door County Community Foundation (DCCF). Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to DCCF, Skatepark Fund, P.O. Box 802, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.
