Southern Door School District Participates in Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch Oct. 12

Southern Door is excited to again participate in the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch Oct. 12, 11 am to noon, to celebrate National Farm to School Month. Their participation is made possible through the partnership with the District’s Partners in Health Committee, A’viands, and Kielar Akers Orchard of Forestville. The Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm to school and other local food purchasing initiatives throughout the region.

Kielar Akers Orchard will supply a variety of apples for sampling to all interested students and staff from 11 am to noon in the Elementary/Middle School Cafeteria.

A’viands Food Service will serve an apple themed Chef on Demand in the High School with the menu including: chicken braised with bacon prepared with maple syrup and apples, wild rice formed with apple slices and dried peach risotto, apple jicama and black bean relish, spinach and apple salad with apple cider vinaigrette, farm fresh apple and cinnamon sugar dusted whole grain biscuit topped with caramelized apples.
