Students Receive Awards at Salon of DC HS Art Exhibit

At the April 20 evening Opening Reception of the 35th Annual Salon of Door County High School Art Exhibit at The Miller Art Museum, each of the 125 students from all five Door County High Schools and Home School were recognized with a Certificate of Participation.

Five Awards of Excellence ($100 each) and six Honorable Mentions ($50 each) were also given to the following students: Alyssa Sekadlo (Award of Excellence, Southern Door); Lori Leist (Honorable Mention, Sevastopol); Patrick Brandt (Honorable Mention, Home School); Josie Robertson (Honorable Mention, Southern Door); Elli Opitz (Honorable Mention, Gibraltar); Emily Moravec (Award of Excellence, Sevastopol); Claire Toerpe (Award of Excellence, Gibraltar); Anna Peot (Award of Excellence, Sturgeon Bay); Hans Nelson (Honorable Mention, Sturgeon Bay); Caleb Cornell (Award of Excellence, Washington Island); Alec Reiss (Honorable Mention, Washington Is).

Exhibit Sponsors for the 2009 exhibit who make these awards possible are:  Miriam Erickson, Carl and Ruth Scholz, and The Townsend Foundation.

Also acknowledged at the Opening Reception are the High School Art Teachers who work cooperatively with the museum to host this special exhibit for their students. Teachers honored this year include:  James Zellner, George Ouimette (Southern Door); Tom Smith (Gibraltar); Nichole Herbst (Sturgeon Bay); James Rericha (Sevastopol); and Tom Hokkanen (Washington Island).

The exhibit continues through May 26, 2009.
