The Link Celebrates #Families with New Exhibit

Peninsula School of Art (PenArt) is proud to display artwork created by youths attending their 2015 Summer Studios for Young Artists workshops, as well as the School’s Family Art Days outreach program, in the upcoming Art of the Family exhibition, currently on exhibit at The Link Children’s Art Gallery at Door Community Auditorium.

Contributions to Art of the Family from September’s Family Art Day follow the theme of “#ArtofTheFamily,” with family members working together to draw a “selfie” of their family enjoying a special memory from within a paper iPhone-shaped frame. In a world where the “selfie” self-portrait is seen consistently on Facebook and Instagram newsfeeds, PenArt stepped away from a focus on the individual to concentrate on what truly makes Door County unique – the families that support a strong arts-centered community.

After discussing their ideas, families drew a “#familie” that expressed what makes their bond unique. Those visiting the exhibition are encouraged to create and add their own #familie to the Link Gallery walls. By doing so, they join the featured artists of Art of the Family in a celebration of the beauty that is created when families collaborate their creativity and express their feelings through art, and then share it with the Door County community.

The Link Gallery of Children’s Art is Door County’s first exhibit space dedicated to the showing of artwork that portrays the world through the eyes of children. Exhibits can be viewed from 12 – 5 pm, Monday to Friday and from noon to show time on show nights. The Link Gallery of Children’s Art is located at 3926 Hwy 42 in Fish Creek, inside the Door Community Auditorium.
