Two Controversial Signs Coming Down

The Village of Egg Harbor on Jan. 18 notified the public and Egg Harbor Business Association (EHBA) that the village can remove controversial orange “No Access to Egg Harbor” signs along Highway 42 north of the village and south of Carlsville, due to permission from Wisconsin Department of Transportation (Wis-DOT).

Mark Kantola, Northeast Region Communication Manager for Wis-DOT, said erecting the orange no-access signs is standard practice to keep people out of construction zones if they don’t need to enter them. He said the DOT detour engineer and project development manager met with Megan Sawyer, village administrator.

“We discussed potential impacts/risks associated with removal,” Kantola said. Those include “additional traffic impacts to the work zone, more traffic, more conflicts, safety to contractors/motorists, lower production rates, and possibly an increase in flagging operations.”
