Vikings Sweep Wolves in Baseball Twin Bill

Coming off a 7-3 non-conference loss at home a day earlier against Sheboygan Area Lutheran, Gibraltar/Washington Island’s baseball team got back on the winning track Saturday by sweeping a Packerland Conference doubleheader it hosted against Algoma.

The Vikings won game one over the Wolves in five innings, 10-0.

Noah Greene pitched five shutout innings in recording the victory, scattering four hits and striking out seven.

Of Gibraltar/Washington Island’s 11 hits, Rylan Caldecott, Will Friedenfels and Aidan Purinton had two apiece. Caldecott, Purinton, Bennett Isaacson and Brady Kita each doubled for the Vikings.

Game two went the full seven innings with Gibraltar/Washington Island winning, 4-2.

Aaron Brey pitched the final 5 1/3 innings to record the victory, giving up both runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out two.

Of the Vikings’ seven hits, Purinton had a pair of doubles, Kita singled and doubled, and Friedenfels also doubled.

Gibraltar/Washington Island, which improved to 6-0 in the Packerland, returns to action Tuesday with a league doubleheader at Southern Door, which is 4-0 in the conference.
