What’s Coming Up in Door County?

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced plans to build two roundabouts on Highway 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay in 2015. The roundabouts would be installed at the intersection of Michigan Street and Highway 42/57 (by the Door County YMCA) and at the intersection of Egg Harbor Road and Highway 42/57 (near the former K-mart building).

The Town of Baileys Harbor will host a public hearing at the Town Hall to review its proposed 2012 budget on Nov. 29 at 6 pm. Residents can inspect the budget at the Town Clerk’s office during regular office hours.

Parent-Teacher Conferences for Sturgeon Bay High School will take place on Dec. 12 from 4-5:30 pm.

The Wisconsin State Assembly passed a bill Oct. 25 extending hours for retail liquor sales. Stores selling beer and liquor for off-premise consumption will be able to start selling alcohol at 6 am, two hours earlier than current state law allows. Beer sales would still end at midnight, with all other types of liquor sales ending at 9 pm.

The Village of Egg Harbor plans to do its next revaluation in 2014. Village President Nancy Fisher said the municipality performs revaluations every five years.

“You see what is happening in Liberty Grove and that’s why we want to do it every five years,” she said. “We really wince when we see what the response is when you wait 10 years between revaluations.”

Fisher said the village required last year that all village trustees take Board of Review training, offered either online through the UW – Extension or in person.
