Winter Carnival in Baileys Harbor

Pond hockey tournament at last year’s Winter Carnival.

The Baileys Harbor Community Association is proud to announce that, due to great turnout for the inaugural event last year, Winter Carnival is back! The event will be held Feb. 6 – 8 throughout Baileys Harbor and on the ice of Kangaroo Lake at the Public Access on Kangaroo Beach Road.

Friday night celebrates the beginning of the festival weekend with Door County Brewing Company. Live acoustic band Dead Horses will perform from 7 – 9 pm and hockey teams are invited to check in and receive registration packets.

Saturday’s activities will be held on the ice on Kangaroo Lake with a focus on beating the winter blues the only ways the community knows how – “if it has a motor, it’s allowed!” Bring your snowmobiles, ATVs and vehicles to race on the time trial courses and ice or snow radar runs from 10 am – 3 pm. Try out your skills for $5 for unlimited runs. The snowmobile trails run across the causeway on Kangaroo Lake so there’s no need to trailer them up. Trailer access to the lake is available off the end of O’Brien Rd off of Logerquist Road.

The Ridges Sanctuary is hosting its Annual Great Waffle Breakfast at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall from 9 – 11 am. Stop by and grab some breakfast before heading to the ice for the day.

The 2nd Annual Door County Pond Hockey Tournament will begin at 8 am and run until 4 pm. Registration is open and can be found online at doorcountypondhockey.com/registration. Not sure how to get to the lake or can’t find a place to park? There is parking available at the Baileys Harbor Rec Park, 2623 Summit Road, and a free trolley running people down to the lake from 10 am – 3 pm.

If you work up an appetite while watching or competing, the Northern Door Rotary Club is putting on a great spread of brats, hot dogs, chili, and hot drinks. Looking for something a little more fun to drink? Be sure to stop by the snow bar to grab ice cold beer and other beverages.

To round out the afternoon, local band Dirty Deuce will be rocking the tent from 3 – 5 pm. Rob and Jamie play a great set of original and rock and roll covers that will get you in the mood for dancing.

The brewery will host its first ever “Shave & Shake” event on Saturday featuring Retro Haircuts by Spike from 11:30 am – 6pm and live music by Eric Lampert & Friends from 7 – 9pm. On Sunday, they host “Slings & Arrows,” a live storytelling event with Door Shakespeare and Write On, Door County about love and love lost.

End the weekend right with Sunday morning at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall with a farmers market to stock up on handmade, home grown and local products from 10 am – 2 pm.
