WWA Jade Ring Contest is Open

The Wisconsin Writers Association (WWA) Jade Ring Contest opened May 1, 2016, accepting unpublished material only. Entries close July 31, 2016. Three categories are offered:

  • Poetry: All poems, from free verse to formal and everything in between. If it’s a poem, submit to this category. The maximum length is 75 lines.
  • Fiction: All fiction, from children to adult short story, flash fiction, book chapter, script, humor, drama, etc. No erotica. If it’s a creative narrative, submit to this category. The maximum length is 2,000 words.
  • Nonfiction: All nonfiction, from article to memoir, essay, or humorous anecdote. If it’s a true story, submit to this category. The maximum length is 2,000 words.

Prizes are awarded during the fall conference and include Jade Ring or $100 for second-time winners, $70 for second place and $40 for third place. Entry fees are $10 for WWA members and $15 for nonmembers. Feedback from professional judges can be purchased separately for $10. Entry information is found at WiWrite.org. Founded in 1948 by Robert Gard, Wisconsin Writers Association is Wisconsin’s oldest literary association seeking to assist authors. “Our annual contest is a long-standing tradition meant to encourage authors,” WWA President Dave Rank says.
