Young Artists Experience the Wild Side of Art

The Family Centers of Door County and the Art of Music will present Art on the Wild Side on Friday, Jan. 21 from 8:30 am – 12 pm at the Southern Door Family Center. Young artists between the ages of 5 – 12 will spend the entire morning with professional visual and performing arts instructors. Structured, age-appropriate activities will guide the participants to use their imagination and creativity to develop a story they can tell together through performance.

The performing arts instruction will incorporate character building, improvisation, dancing/creative movement, storytelling skills, drumming, music and rhythm. The visual arts instruction may include painting, mask making, or fiber art. Morning snacks and lunch will be provided. Parents and/or grandparents will be treated to a performance by the artists at 12 pm, prior to picking up their children.

Terry Lundahl, Art of Music director, has been conducting a similar children’s program called “Art for Health” at Ministry Door County Medical Center. The success of that program spurred the Wild Side event last summer at the Southern Door School Auditorium.

Due to the generosity of a special Art of Music donor, and grants received from the Raibrook Foundation and the Arts Fund of the Door County Community Foundation, the workshop cost is only $6 per child.

Pre-registration is required. For more information and/or to register stop by the Southern Door Family Center, located at 1400 County Road DK in Brussels, visit http://www.familycentersdc.com, or call 920.825.1430.
