Birding Days on Plum Island

Join the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands (FOPPI), for an up close and personal birding experience on Plum Island on June 3 and 4. Event activities will include: observing professional techniques to capture, band, and release birds; hikes led by expert birders; and opportunities to learn about the natural and historic resources of the Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge and Plum Island.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will provide binoculars, birding books, and have two spotting scopes to enhance viewing opportunities. Plum Island is an uninhabited island in Lake Michigan, so please be prepared for wind, weather, no electricity, and no running water. Restrooms are available.

There will be free public boat transportation from Gills Rock and Washington Island. Space is limited to only 14 seats per trip and reservations are required. To make reservations, call Shoreline Scenic Cruises and Charters at 920.421.0922 or visit shorelinecharters.net.

Or, take your own boat. Personal watercrafts are welcome to join by docking in the designated (Public Docking Area) at Plum Island. For more information contact Park Ranger Dustan Hoffman at [email protected] or 920.948.5037.
