Bjorklunden Hosts Two Free Concerts

Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden will host two free concerts this fall.

The first concert will be held Oct. 30 at 1:30 pm and will feature the music of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt in celebration of the bicentennial of his birth and the annual return of Lawrence piano students. Lawrence alum and faculty, Melody Ng ’08 will be joining the conservatory students of Professor Anthony Padilla for the afternoon program, which includes solo, transcription, and piano duo works of Liszt. During his lifetime Liszt was renowned as a virtuosic pianist, as a conductor, teacher, benefactor and a prolific composer he is widely acknowledged as among the most important and influential people in the modern development of classical music.

The second concert will take place Nov. 13 at 1:30 pm. This performance will feature piano music by Latin American, European, and American composers performed by students from the studio of Catherine Kautsky.

Both concerts are sponsored by the Boynton Society and will be held in Bjِrklunden’s Vail Hall. Entrance to the Bjِrklunden lodge is located on Highway 57, south of Baileys Harbor, across from Anschutz Plumbing.
