Boys Hoops: Eagles Close Out League Play 16-0

Southern Door’s boys basketball team found itself in a closely contested matchup in Thursday’s regular-season finale at Oconto, where the Eagles closed out Packerland Conference play as the undefeated league champion with a 76-74 victory.

After leading 42-40 at halftime, Southern Door had three players end up scoring in double figures led by Drew Daoust with a game-high 39 points. Tyler Neinas added 19 points, with Caden Pierre scoring 10 more.

The Blue Devils were led by Carter Koch with 29 points, followed by Jackson Martin and Trenton Hartman with 14 points apiece.

Southern Door, which enters the postseason at 16-0 in the conference and 20-4 overall, has a first-round bye in its WIAA Division 3 regional tournament as a No. 2 seed and will host a regional semifinal March 1 at 7 pm against the Feb. 27 quarterfinal winner between No. 7-seeded Peshtigo and No. 10-seeded Oconto Falls.

Oconto, which tied with Sturgeon Bay for third in the conference at 10-6 and is 15-9 overall, will host a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal Feb. 27 as a No. 6 seed against No. 11-seeded Coleman. The winner advances to the semifinal March 1 at No. 3-seeded Kewaunee.
