  • Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA

    The Door County YMCA hosts Healthy Kids Day this Saturday, April 24 from 9 am – 1 pm at the Sturgeon Bay Program Center. The day is designed to celebrate healthy living and encourage kids and families to get excited about physical activity and play together.

  • Dining Around the Door Tickets Now on Sale

    Tickets for the ninth annual Dining Around the Door event, held May 2 at Gordon Lodge to benefit the Door County YMCA, are now on sale. The event offers specialties of the house and desserts from a variety of Door County restaurants and businesses.

  • Golden Heart Nomination Deadline Extended

    The Volunteer Center of Door County has extended the deadline for accepting nominations for its Golden Heart Awards celebration to April 23. Nominee categories are: Youth, Adult, Lifetime of Service, Group, and Arts & Culture.

  • Brain Drain Author Speaking at Stone Harbor April 28

    Patrick Carr, co-author of Hollowing Out the Middle: The Rural Brain Drain and What it Means for America, will be the keynote speaker at the Door County Economic Development Corporation’s annual luncheon.

    • Supervisor Anne Miller has received word from Frank Busalacchi, Secretary of the Wisconsin Dept of Transportation (WisDOT), that he has approved the application submitted by the Town of Liberty Grove for the proposed Door County Coastal Byway as an Official Wisconsin Scenic Byway.

  • Northern Door Volleyball Association Seeks Teams

    The Northern Door Volleyball Association (NDVA) is looking for teams to join the Summer Volleyball League on the courts on County Highway A. Each summer, 12 teams join on Wednesday nights for friendly competition under the Door County stars.

  • Quella to Play Soccer at DII Saint Joseph’s

    Steven Quella, a senior at Sevastopol High School, signed a National letter of intent April 7 to play soccer at Saint Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind.

  • Gibraltar’s Forkert, Sawyer Selected for State All-Star Games

    Gibraltar’s Sam Forkert and Tom Sawyer have been selected to play in Wisconsin high school all-star games this summer. Forkert has been selected to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 4 All-Star Game June 19 in Madison at the University of Wisconsin Field House.

    • The Jim Larsen Boys and Girls Club of Door County is hosting their Spring Fish Fry, Thursday, April 22 from 4:30 – 7:30 pm at The Mill Supper Club in Sturgeon Bay.

  • Door County Half Marathon Seeking Volunteers

    Do you want to join the team working on Door County’s most exciting new community event? The Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k is looking for volunteers to help prepare for the rapidly growing race.

  • Door County Humane Society Featured Pets

    Sofie is a gorgeous, spayed, front-declawed, long-haired beauty. Her coat is as white as snow and as soft as cashmere. She arrived to the shelter in March and is eight years old.

  • Coast Guard Clean-up Crew

    The crew from the Coast Guard Station in Sturgeon Bay completed a Roadside Clean up along Canal Road April 2. The crew collected about 250 pounds of trash.

  • Doorfins Swimmers Excel at State

    The Doorfins finished their season with 66 best times at the YMCA State Swimming Championships held at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. These phenomenal times put them in 9th place overall as a team and ahead of 9 teams double or triple their size.

  • Strivers Gymnasts Qualify 20 for Nationals

    The Door County YMCA Striver’s Gymnastic Team attended the State Tournament on March 19 and 20 in Sheboygan, Wis. The team returned to Sturgeon Bay with nine individual medals and numerous top 15 placings.

  • Teenage Alcohol Town Hall Meeting Thursday

    The Door County Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition will host a Town Hall Meeting Thursday, April 8 at the Jacksonport Town Hall (3365 County Road V). Snacks will be served at 6pm.

  • Community Notes March 19 – April 2

    • The Volunteer Center of Door County will present the eighth annual Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration Tuesday, May 25. The celebration begins with a social at 4:45 pm, dinner at 5:30 pm and a 6:30 pm awards program at the Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sturgeon Bay.

  • Summer Soccer Registration Under Way

    The Northern Door County SAY (NDCSAY) summer soccer registration is underway until April 23. The summer soccer program is open to boys and girls age 4 – 18 (by August 1, 2010).
