Dahl & Russell at Gibraltar Town Hall

On Nov. 6, two singer-songwriters will team up for a concert at Gibraltar Town Hall. This upcoming performance will feature local folkie Katie Dahl (joined by bass player Rich Higdon) as well as California-based Claudia Russell (joined by her mandolin-playing sidekick, Bruce Kaplan). The two duos will play original songs and fan favorites, sometimes joining each other on harmonies and instrumental accompaniment. The show takes place at 7 pm on Nov. 6 at the old Gibraltar Town Hall in downtown Fish Creek.

Dahl has performed her original songs everywhere from the dusty cliff country of Mali, West Africa to the winding canals of southern France, to the Wisconsin northwoods. The depth and power of Dahl’s alto voice, the literate candor of her original songs, and the easy humor of her live performances have earned her numerous songwriting. She is also a playwright whose musical Victory Farm premiered at American Folklore Theatre in 2012.

Mike Fischer of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that Dahl “combine[s] old-fashioned populism, an abiding love of the land, and wickedly smart love songs, all delivered in a rich and expressive alto.”

Russell is an outstanding singer and songwriter who has shared stages with some of the best-known names in American roots music, including Loudon Wainwright III, Tish Hinojosa, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. Door County audiences may know her best for her work with American Folklore Theatre in its shows Old Friends, Goodnight Irene, Fish and Whistle, and Sometimes a Song. Russell is a rich and evocative songwriter who is also known for her vocal talent.

Tickets are first-come, first-served and cost $18 each. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Old Gibraltar Town Hall is located at 4176 Maple St. in downtown Fish Creek near Clark Park.
