DCU Boys Swimmers 10th at ‘Small School State’

The Door County United (DCU) cooperative boys swimming team placed 10th out of 19 teams in Saturday’s Small School State invitational hosted by Shorewood High School.

“It was a great day at the pool today,” said DCU head coach Erin Peterson. “The boys showed up to do work today, and I am immensely proud of them.”

DCU’s 87.5 points outscored three of its conference rivals – Kiel, Chilton and Berlin – and also finished ahead of Sheboygan South, which hosted an invitational two weeks earlier when it placed ahead of DCU.

Shorewood topped Saturday’s team standings with 278.5 points, followed by Rhinelander (270) and Whitefish Bay (256) in the top three.

Two of DCU’s relays placed in the top eight with season-best times.

Race Kasten, Jack Monfils, Ezra Linnan and Logan Filar finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 35.33 seconds, while Kasten, Monfils, Colton Blackley and Filar came in eighth in the 200 medley relay (1:46.26).

Monfils added two top-10 individual finishes by placing eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.11) and 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:10.69).

Kasten also placed 10th individually with a season-best time in the 50 freestyle (23.54).

DCU hosts a dual meet Tuesday against Pulaski before next Saturday’s conference meet at Chilton. The team then competes Feb. 11 in the WIAA Division 1 sectional at Neenah.
