Door County Opportunities: “The Flavors of Provence” Explores the Culinary Delights of Southern France

Janice Thomas, proprietor of the Savory Spoon Cooking School in Ellison Bay, enhances her onsite instructional courses with culinary excursions. This spring Thomas will lead a small group to southern France.

With “The Flavors of Provence,” a seven-day trip through one of the most beautiful and taste tantalizing regions of Europe, students will visit professional teaching kitchens, local markets, and specialty shops. Immersing themselves in the extraordinary cuisine of the region, students will participate in hands-on cooking classes.

Lodging will be provided in a restored 18th century Provencal stone farmhouse. In addition to an extraordinary epicurean experience, students will have free time to relax in the sun, enjoy lunch poolside, and visit local villages for shopping.

“Good food produces such pleasure. And cooking is a wonderful opportunity to share the kitchen with friends, and participate in the camaraderie of cooking,” Thomas related.

“The Flavors of Provence” will depart for Saint Remy-de-Provence, France on May 12 and return on May 18. The registration deadline is March 16.

With a passion for food and a desire to share culinary creativity, Janice Thomas established Savory Spoon in 2004, the first year-round cooking school in Door County. Located in a charming historic 1879 schoolhouse in Ellison Bay, Savory Spoon features guest instructors and food experts whose areas of expertise include cheeses, fresh grown produce, cuisines from around the world, and new techniques in food preparation.
