Rachel Nielsen (right), Matt Olson (not pictured) and Carol Thompson hit the cross-country ski trails at Newport State Park on Saturday, Jan. 18. It was a beautiful day for skiing – made obvious by the impeccable trail conditions and the parking lots full of cars.

Dear Mary Pat, I was recently rejected. I asked an acquaintance from the bar out on a date, and he flat out said, “No thanks.” There was no explanation for why, and at the time I was too stunned to ask, but I’m curious why he doesn’t want to go out with me.

Time Traveling Back to the Donna Theatre

Holiday Music Motel Hosts Caravan Gypsy Swing Ensemble
Sturgeon Bay may not have a year-round intimate jazz club, but they will for one night at The Holiday Music Motel in downtown Sturgeon Bay. Back for their third appearance at The Holiday, on Jan. 31 at 7 pm the Caravan Gypsy Swing Ensemble returns to inundate listeners with their own unique take on vintage hot swing and gypsy jazz performing both originals and long-time classics.

Actors and Volunteers Needed for “Vagina Monologues” Production
The auditions/rehearsals for The Vagina Monologues are taking place at the Sturgeon Bay Library on Jan. 27 at 5 pm. The performance is scheduled for Feb.

StageKids’s Theatre Lab for middle and high school students began on Jan. 22. For six weeks, students will meet twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays working with professionals from the Stage Door Theatre Company.

AFT Songwriter to Perform Fireside
On Jan. 25 at 7 pm, Jimmy Kaplan and friends will present a concert in the Door Community Auditorium (DCA) Fireside Lobby. Jimmy Kaplan has been writing music for American Folklore Theatre shows since 1992, including Lumberjacks in Love, Loose Lips Sink Ships, and Guys on Ice.

“Women with Spirit” Return for Healing Project Concert
Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) and Ministry Door County Medical Center (MDCMC) are hosting the “Women with Spirit” concert on Feb. 7 at 7:30 pm with musicians Victoria Vox, Dorothy Scott, Sue Demel and Katie Dahl.

Jazz Duo Performs Standards and Originals from “Blue Shoes”
Katie Schnorr and George Sawyn, Door County’s bona fide jazz duo, will perform at the UU Fellowship at 7 pm on Feb. 1. The program will feature standards from the American Songbook – from Ellington to Ella – and some new tunes that audiences have not heard the duo perform before.
