Girls Basketball: Vikings Edge Past Clippers

Gibraltar’s girls basketball team trailed 23-22 at halftime Friday before pulling out a 44-42 Packerland Conference victory at Sturgeon Bay.

The Vikings, who improved to 5-10 in the Packerland after having last won a conference game Jan. 11 at Peshtigo, were led by McKailey Reisen with 10 points. Mikala Gorham and Andie Schar added nine points each.

The Clippers (2-12), who have lost their last five conference games after last winning Jan. 22 at home against Peshtigo, were led by Dasha Yeltysheva with a game-high 20 points. Regan Kasten added 10 points.

Gibraltar closes out the regular season at home this week with a Packerland game Monday night against Algoma and then a non-conference contest Thursday against Stockbridge. The Vikings open the WIAA Division 5 regional tournament Feb. 20 as a No. 10 seed at No. 7-seeded Niagara.

Sturgeon Bay wraps up the regular season with Packerland games Monday at Kewaunee and Thursday at home against NEW Lutheran. The Clippers open the WIAA Division 3 tournament Feb. 20 as a No. 10 seed at No. 7-seeded Tomahawk.
