Lauretta Kelley Finds Art Inspiration in Paris

The Door County Art League’s artist of the week is league co-president Lauretta Kelley. A reception will be held Sept. 26, 3 – 5 pm, and everyone is welcome.

Kelley is an artist that finds inspiration in the beautiful barns within the shores of Door County. She said: “I am driven by this philosophy to create and convey the way I see the world: intimate glimpses, passionate moments and everyday life. I paint and draw plein air landscapes, still life, and figurative genre influenced by a representational style.

On a recent trip to Paris, Kelley visited The Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay and found new inspiration for her art. She said, “I was overwhelmed by the enormity of the museums’ collections and the works of the artists. A new education for me and a commitment to my passion. The artists are deceased but their work lives on, captures time and still stirs the soul. I hope my work will survive the evolution of time and allow a legitimate reason for my existence.”

The DCAL gallery is located in the courtyard of the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. Click here for more information.
