Letter to the Editor: The Moral Choice?

After my request that renewable energy be included in the Department of Energy budget, Senator Ron Johnson responded to me that “irresponsible spending” was “immoral…and must stop.” Renewable energy is immoral? This, from our senator who has marched in lockstep with Donald Trump in the president’s assault on the environment and on health care for all, his rejection of the climate change agreement, his deportation of immigrants, his failure to cooperate with a bipartisan investigation into Russia’s role in our election process, his lack of transparency re: his finances while he uses properties such as Mar-a-Lago for conducting government business while charging U.S. taxpayers. Instead, Senator Johnson could choose to stand against hate. To stand for respect. To protect the vulnerable. To care for the earth. The “moral choice?” It’s not standing with Donald Trump; I hope Mr. Johnson will consider this as he casts his votes.
