New Fire Station Nearing Completion

The new town fire station remains on track for completion by mid-October, according to Fire Chief Brian Zak, who said he can’t wait to move into the new home. During reconstruction, the department is storing trucks and equipment at several locations in the town, including at the town shop, sewer plant and the vacant Nelson’s Hardware building.

“We’re leaning on our mid-Door partners in Ephraim and Gibraltar to keep our response time good,” Zak said.

He said the new station will bring many functional improvements to department operations.

“The old station was well beyond its useful life expectancy,” he said. “We had to limit the height of trucks we purchased to fit them in there. Now we’ll have exhaust capabilities in the building, an exercise area, office space, a larger meeting room for virtual training. It’s going to get us into the here and now, like Sister Bay and the Brussels/Union/Gardner Fire Department.”
