  • Spring Tree Beautification Program Sales Event

    The Jacksonports Women’s Club will continue their Tree Beautification Program again in 2015. The successful first year blooms of the trees planted from the past two years sales have already captured the attention of residents and visitors along scenic byways, back roads and small lakes with their beautiful late May blooms.

  • Arbor Day Party and Call for Volunteers

    Spring tree planting is just around the corner and The Forest Recovery Project is again calling all donors and tree planters. Last spring, intrepid Forest Recovery Project volunteers planted 600 tree seedlings on public lands.

  • Peninsula State Park “Green” Campfire

    Visitors to Peninsula State Park can drop by the nature center on Saturday, March 14, for a “Green” Campfire Cook-out in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Participants can learn how to prepare and cook green pancakes in pudgy pie irons and sample “beach slime” dip from 11 am to 12:30 pm.

    Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the availability of more than $66.5 million in funding for research and extension activities to address the needs of America’s specialty crop industry and solve critical organic agricultural production issues.

  • Lecture on Small Farm Profits

    A lecture about “Turning a Profit on Small Farms” will be offered at the Algoma Farm Market Kitchen on March 21 from 2 – 5 pm. The workshop is presented by the Rural Enterprise Network and will feature four sessions all focused on helping the smaller farmers and growers find new revenue tracks to help them make a profit.

    The Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB) is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Door County Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) of the Year award, through April 6.

  • USDA Urges Farmers to Purchase Coverage

    State Executive Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA), Brad Pfaff, urges producers who want to purchase coverage through the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) to do so before the sales closing date of March 16, 2015, for spring planted crops.

  • Thank CWAC for Manure Spraying Ban

    Last fall town boards in the county began considering an ordinance to ban the use of center-pivot irrigation systems for the spraying of liquid manure on farm lands, largely due to health concerns about drift from the spraying and acknowledged pathogens in manure that are harmful to human health.
