Obituary: Harry A. Zak

June 3, 1930 ~ April 15, 2023

Harry Zak, 92, of Sturgeon Bay died on April 15, 2023.  He was born June 3, 1930, to Harry and Helen (Simon) Zak in Baileys Harbor.  Harry graduated from Gibraltar High School.  He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean war.  On the happy day of June 30, 1951, he married the love of his life, Adeline Haberli at Fort Lee, Virginia.  They were blessed with one son and three daughters whom they devoted their lives to unconditionally.

Harry worked 16 years as a buyer for the H. C. Prange Co.  He then took a sales position at Felhofer Brothers and later Bill Boettcher’s car dealership where he held several positions over his 24-year career.  Harry and Adeline also operated a cherry and apple orchard.  In retirement, he enjoyed extensive travel with his wife and family, creating lasting and cherished memories.   He also enjoyed working in his flower beds, mowing his lawn, playing cards, and baking cookies for his grandchildren.

Harry served his community as a member of the Sturgeon Bay School Board from 1969-1972.  He was a strong and faithful member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, serving as the Treasurer, and as a member of the Board of Elders and Board of Education.  Harry’s passion was singing and was an active member of the choir.

He shared his faith and love with his family and will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.  Survivors include his children, Kay (Stu) Krause, Oshkosh; Stuart (Paula) Zak and Susan (Thomas) Maenpaa, Cold Springs, KY; Karrie (Dave) Anthony, Sturgeon Bay; 12 grandchildren, Matt (Apryle) Krause; Jill Hastings; Ben (Jana) Zak; Joel (Michele) Zak; Dan (Carrie) Zak;  Laura (Dan) Bert; Phil (Ashleigh) Maenpaa; Rachel Maenpaa; Beth (Logan) Jaehen; Erik (Erin) Anthony;  Jonathon (Amanda) Anthony; Jordan (Melissa) Anthony; and 17 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Adeline, his parents, grandson, Isaiah Anthony, sisters, Darlene, and Donna Zak.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.  Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery with military honors.  Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.  Memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran School.
