Obituary: Richard “Dick” Joseph Brauer

Richard “Dick” Joseph Brauer, 93, of the Town of Sevastopol, died on Friday, August 26, 2022.

He was born August 31, 1928 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Henry Charles Brauer and Esther (Donovan) Brauer. Dick grew up attending Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and School in Institute and worked for Martin Orchards. He went on to graduate from Sevastopol High School. As a young man, Dick served his country with the United States Army, entering into active duty on November 20, 1950. He was initially stationed at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin and then Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Dick was transferred to the Army Reserves two years later and remained in the Reserves until his honorable discharge on October 9, 1956.

He worked as a truck driver for 27 years, initially for Milwaukee Stove & Furnace Supply for 12 years before joining the Teamsters Union Local 200 and driving for Bultman Trucking for 13 years. Dick also owned a 20-acre cherry orchard in the Town of Sevastopol in Door County from 1955 until 1990. He spent his last years of driving truck (more) locally to Green Bay until his retirement.

Dick remained a longtime member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish. He liked watching sports especially, football (cheering on the Green Bay Packers) and baseball. Dick also enjoyed listening to music and attending the horse races, going to casinos, and playing cards.

He will be missed by his two nieces and one nephew, Beverly (Darryl) Sternard of Sturgeon Bay, Cynthia (William) Rice of Forney, TX, and Mark (Lynn) Brauer of Deerbrook; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives; and friends.                                                                            

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Shirley (Martin) Arbter, Ralph (Martha) Brauer, Herbert (Betty) Brauer, and Donald (Loretta) Brauer; and other relatives.

His life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. Dick will be laid to rest near his family in St. Joseph Mausoleum in the Town of Sevastopol.

A parish wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with visitation for family and friends to follow until 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Thursday morning, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.
