Pfister Featured at Art League Gallery

The featured artist for the week of Aug. 16 at the Gallery of the Door County Art League, located in the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek, is artist Penny Pfister.

Pfister started painting 30 years ago but got busy with family and business and put it aside. She began again in a class with Bridget Austin at Peninsula Art School. Pfister is a traditional painter and first used blues, greens, and greys, as her instructor taught. Now she says red is her favorite color. She begins a project by looking through her hundreds of photos, which she takes everywhere she goes.

Pfister’s subjects are often Door County flowers and fruits depicted in bright, cheerful colors. Pfister recently began working in oils, using the Cana Island Lighthouse and the Green Bay shore as inspiration. She won an Award of Excellence at the League’s 23rd Annual Juried Exhibit for her oil of “Chelsea Morning.”

The Gallery of the Door County Art League is open 10 am – 5 pm daily, and a reception is planned for the fourth Saturday of each month, 3 – 5 pm, this season.
