Poetry: Finding your voice, using it well

From Oct. 13 – 18, 2013 Lawrence University’s Björklunden offers the seminar “Poetry: Finding your voice, using it well” with Marilyn Taylor.

Whether participants consider themselves beginners or experienced poets, this course offers an exceptional opportunity for them to write the poems that will clearly and imaginatively express the observations and feelings that are distinctly theirs. In the supportive company of other poets, participants will experiment with sound, rhythm, form and imagery – and in the workshop setting, will provide each other with invaluable guidance about what works – and what doesn’t. Participants wind up with a supply of new skills for writing exactly the kind of poetry they do best.

Taylor, Ph.D., former Wisconsin Poet Laureate (2009 and 2010) and the city of Milwaukee (2004 and 2005), is the author of six collections of poetry. Taylor taught poetry and poetics for fifteen years at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and currently serves as a contributing editor for The Writer magazine, where her articles on craft appear bi-monthly.

Seminar classes meet weekday mornings and some evenings at Björklunden’s lodge, just south of Baileys Harbor. Each seminar includes meals prepared by Björklunden’s resident chef. For complete course descriptions, fees, and registration dates call 920.839.2216 or visit lawrence.edu/s/bjorklunden.
