Rogue Theatre Finds a Home and Presents ‘It Had to Be You’

Lola DeVillers and Stuart Champeau star in Rogue Theatre’s upcoming production of ‘It Had to Be You.’

Rogue Theatre, Door County’s newest performing arts company, presents It Had To Be You by Renée Taylor and Joseph Bologna at the Sister Bay Village Hall, now through Oct. 12. The comedy classic tells the story of Theda Blau, a failed actress, health food nut and would-be playwright who wants to find love and success in New York, and Vito Pignoli, a hugely successful TV commercial director who is the reluctant object of her affections.

Lola DeVillers plays Theda and Stuart Champeau plays Vito. Renée Kujawski directs, with assistance from Bill Bauernfeind. The show runs October 10 – 12 at 7:30 pm with a Packer-friendly performance on Oct. 13 at 4:30 pm. Tickets are $15. For tickets or more information, call 920.818.0816.

Recently, Rogue Theatre announced its partnership with Sturgeon Bay’s historic train depot, owned by Tom Alberts and Mark Feld, in order to bring a unique performing arts center to Door County.

Founded by DeVillers and Champeau in January, Rogue Theatre has brought theater productions to many locations in the county, including the Lodge at Leathem Smith, Birch Creek Music Performance Center, John Martin’s Restaurant, Glas, Third Avenue Playhouse, and Greco Gallery.

DeVillers and Champeau’s vision for The Depot Performing Arts Center is a space where all forms of entertainment and art will come together; including community and professional theater, music, dance and visual arts. The space will also be available to rent for special events and private parties. (Community theater and music groups are encouraged to reserve performance dates at the PAC, as The Depot is currently setting its winter calendar of events.)

The Depot PAC will debut Nov. 21 with the comedy A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking, starring DeVillers and Katie Lott Schnorr.
