StageKids Offers Winter Classes

StageKids, the community children’s theatre company at the Third Avenue Playhouse, will hold a series of classes each Saturday in January and February, beginning Jan. 6.

Students may sign up for a single class or a series of classes. Classes will be taught by the professional members of TAP’s Educational Initiative: Spencer Milligan, Claire Morkin and Ryan Patrick Shaw.

Eight class sessions are scheduled for each of the following age groups: 5 – 8, 9 – 12, and 13 – 18. Each class is $20, or $15 when registering for four or more classes.

• Beginning Musical Theatre, 10 – 11:30 am

This class for 5 – 8 year olds is an introductory dance class for students to learn beginning jazz, ballet and tap. Morkin will also guide students in warm-ups and theatre games.

Students will stage and perform a twenty-minute version of The Sound of Music, and the final week culminates in a performance for parents and friends.

• Introduction to Stage and Film Acting, 12 – 1:30 pm

This class for 9 – 12 year olds is high-energy and introduces participants to the world of acting, theatre and film.

Shaw and Milligan will lead students in theatre games, improvised scenes and exploring a character through different voice and movement exercises. This class will also be a crash course in acting in front of the camera.

• Stage and Film Acting for Teenagers, 2 – 3:30 pm

This class for 13 – 18 year olds will explore acting techniques and the art and fun of improvisation. Shaw and Milligan will guide students on breaking scenes down in order to get a clear idea of how professionals work on a script. Students will work in front of a camera and discover the differences between performing on stage before a live audience and performing before a camera lens.

To register, call 920.743.1760 or stop by TAP on weekdays, 10 am – 3 pm. TAP is located at 239 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.
