Take the Community Needs Assessment

The Door County Public Health department has had a more visible presence in the community during the past couple of years as it has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Door County, a little more than 75% of those who are eligible for the vaccine have received the first full series, and many have received boosters as well.

What the public may not know about Public Health is that since the mid-1990s, it has conducted a Community Needs Assessment (CNA) every five years. The CNA is a systematic process involving data collection and analysis, interviews with community partners and input from residents. These surveys help Public Health better understand the community’s health needs and affect how the department works toward improving community health.

The four focus areas from the last assessment were mental health; adequate, appropriate and safe food and nutrition; oral health; and healthy growth and development.

The next step in this year’s process is to gather input from Door County residents, all of whom are invited to take part in the process by completing the 2022 Door County Health Needs Assessment Survey. Go to co.door.wi.gov/167/Public-Health to access the survey. Paper copies are available at the Public Health office, or call 920.746.2234 to find additional locations.

The survey is anonymous, does not collect any identifying information and can be completed in fewer than 10 minutes.

Once the data is compiled, the Public Health staff and a team of community partners will analyze it, prioritize the action steps needed, and develop and implement a response to the identified needs. The results are expected to be available in the fall and will be shared then.
