TAP Announces its 2017 Summer/Fall Season

Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) in Sturgeon Bay announces its 2017 summer/fall season. From June 29-July 22, TAP brings the Tony Award-winning RED to the stage, written by John Logan and directed by Robert Boles. Raw and provocative, RED is a searing portrait of artist Mark Rothko’s ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.

The comic operetta Candide, directed by James Valcq and musical director Adam Baus, takes the stage July 27 – Sept. 2. Featuring a splendid score by the unparalleled Leonard Bernstein, Candide is a witty and wacky satire of an operetta. Based on Voltaire’s 1759 novella of the same name, Candide takes the audience on an around-the-world romp of idealistic optimism as it clashes with a series of absurdly unfortunate events. The young and naïve title character is betrothed to the Baron of Westphalia’s beautiful daughter Cunegonde, and along with the maid Paquette and Cunegonde’s brother Maximilian, they all subscribe firmly to the doctrine that has been instilled in them by their teacher Dr. Pangloss:  that everything that occurs is for the best, no matter what. They soon find out that isn’t always the case.

From Sept. 7 – Oct. 15 is Every Brilliant Thing. TAP favorite Dan Klarer leads the audience on an engaging journey of a son’s gift to his mother, to himself, and to the audience.
