The Bulletin: Coming Up

• The Town of Sevastopol is preparing to celebrate its Sesquicentennial (150 years) in 2009 and is gathering suggestions and looking for volunteers to help plan the celebration. Those interested should call the town office at 920.746.1230 or email [email protected]. The next Sevastopol Town Board meeting is slated for Monday, Dec. 15 at 7 pm.

• The Town of Baileys Harbor will consider revisions to its ordinance governing the allotment of liquor licenses in the municipality at a meeting Dec. 18 at 8:30 pm.

• Candidates can circulate nomination papers for local office this month. The papers must be in by Jan. 6 for the April 7, 2009 general election.

• A “Broom Ball” is scheduled for Dec. 27 at the Mink River Basin to celebrate the kickoff of the Northern Door Broomball League season and raise funds for the league. The party will feature food, drinks, and live music from the Mullet Hunters.

• The annual Jacksonport Polar Bear plunge is slated for New Years Day, with hundreds of crazy souls expected to hit the icy waters of Lake Michigan at noon to start the year with a refreshing dip. An amusing look back at 22 years of stupidity can be found at http://www.doorbell.net/pbc/index.htm.

• The Door County Tourism Zone Commission oversees the dispersal of all room tax dollars. The commission, made up of appointees from each municipality collecting the 5.5 percent lodging tax, meets at rotating sites on the third Thursday of each month. Sister Bay Village Administrator Bob Kufrin chairs the commission. The next meeting is Dec. 18 at the Gibraltar Fire Station.

• The Door County YMCA will offer discounts for new memberships to kick off 2009. People can join the YMCA on Jan. 1 – 2 with no joining fee, a savings of up to $75. The facilities are also available for free on the first, and free fitness consultations are available throughout January.
