The Essence of Pure and Simple

For anyone who loves good traditional folk and mountain roots music, there is a great opportunity to hear one of the best singers/songwriters in the northern Arkansas hills, accompanied by two musicians.

For one night only, Fishstock, just outside of Fish Creek on County F, is offering a two-hour concert featuring Carolyn Carter with Samuel and Nathan Cobb. The concert is July 27 at 7 pm.

Carter has been performing in the Mt. View area for about 16 years with some of the best folk/bluegrass musicians in the mountains. She has been writing since she was a teenager, winning prestigious awards from her first song, “Leaving Abilene.”

Since then she has written hundreds of songs, “but never writes down a chord or a word,” she says. “In fact, I rarely sing the same song the same way twice.”

Carter’s music reflects the very essence of pure and simple folk/ballads/gospel with a little edge of mountain bluegrass. As many concertgoers mentioned at last year’s concert, “her music touches the core of my being; goes right into my soul.”

That is probably one of the highlights of hearing Carter in an intimate, enclosed venue such as Fishstock – she makes a connection with her listeners in about five minutes through her amazingly sweet voice, captivating lyrics and incredibly interesting stories of life in the back hills (which is what most of her songs are about).
