The Ridges to hold Building for Bluebirds Workshop

Swallows may be flying back to Capistrano, but when bluebirds appear in Door County in March, it’s a sure sign that spring is on the way. In some areas, though, the returning bluebirds have a hard time finding a home. Learn about ways to help bluebirds and build a nesting box to take home at The Ridges Sanctuary on March 9.

Building for Bluebirds Workshops will be held at 10 am and 2 pm at The Ridges’ Marshall Cabin, 8288 Hwy Q, in Baileys Harbor. During the workshop, Ridges Naturalist Karen Newbern will share natural history and habitat needs of the Eastern Bluebird. She will also give tips on attracting bluebirds to nest boxes and discuss the importance of monitoring and recording use of the nests.

This program is designed for families, but all ages are welcome. The cost of the workshop is $20 per family and includes materials for one bluebird house. Additional birdhouse kits may be purchased for $8.

All materials will be supplied, but participants are encouraged to bring their own hammer. Pre-registration is required.

Building for Bluebirds is one in a series of Ridges programs called “No Family Left Inside.” These programs are designed to give parents and children the opportunity to explore nature together.
