  • Sunrise Ambassadors Help Out at Boys and Girls Club

    The Volunteer Ambassadors from Sunrise School recently worked on two important projects at the Boys and Girls Club of Door County. They helped paint the new cubbies for all the kids to store their things and created decorations for the Volunteer Center’s Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration.

  • Attend A Ladies High Tea

    On May 13, 1 – 3 pm, the Sister Bay Moravian Church will bring back the fashionable pastime of serving a Ladies High Tea. Fine teas, delectable savories and sweets will be served.

  • League of Women Voters to Hold Annual Meeting May 14

    The public is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Door County members for their annual meeting on May 14 at Mr. G’s Logan Creek Grille, 5897 Hwy.

  • Money Management Counselors Host Trolley Tour

    Money Management Counselors will host its third annual Gala Wine and Beer Tasting Trolley Tour on May 13, 5:30 – 9:30 pm. 5:30pm: Door County Trolleys will depart from the Stone Harbor parking lot on 1st Ave at 5:30 pm, and then travel to von Stiehl Winery and Ahnapee Brewery before heading back to Stone Harbor for tastings from Door Peninsula Winery, Door County Brewing Co.

  • Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Hosts Mental Health Presentation

    May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Door County Public Health Department’s Mental Health Focus Group is involved in some events to celebrate. Tara Meissner, author of Stress Fracture – A Memoir of Psychosis, will be at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay discussing her personal experience on May 11 at 6 pm.

  • Eat Waffles and Pancakes for NDCC

    The Carroll House restaurant in Sister Bay is having its annual pancake and waffle breakfast to benefit Northern Door Children’s Center (NDCC). On May 16, 7 am – 2 pm, the full menu is available, but 100 percent of all pancake and waffle sales will be donated to NDCC.

  • Students Honored at Rotary Fine Arts Award Luncheon

    Twenty students outstanding in instrumental and choral music, drama, forensics, art and journalism in Door County high schools were honored May 19 at the Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary Club’s 14th Annual Fine Arts Award Luncheon.

  • Community Clinic Begins Women to Women Cancer Support Group

    The Community Clinic of Door County welcomes women who have been diagnosed with cancer and are in the process of cancer treatment or have completed treatment to the new Women to Women cancer support group.

  • Three Students Receive Bordui Foundation Scholarships

    Isabeau Hitzmann, Katherine Scheer and Sylvia Hauser, seniors at Sturgeon Bay High School, have been named winners of the 2015 Bordui Foundation scholarship competition.

  • Door County People of Faith Continues to Meet at Glas

    Door County People of Faith church began meeting upstairs at Glas Coffeehouse on Jan. 18, and is delivering on its promise to support nonprofit community lifelines in Sturgeon Bay and throughout Door County.

  • SBVC Receives Donation for Jazz on Jefferson

    Andrew Goodman, executive director of the Golden Living Center – Dorchester, recently presented Fred Young, board president of the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center, with a $1,000 donation to benefit Sturgeon Bay’s annual Jazz on Jefferson Street Festival.

  • Gibraltar Student Council Creates Scholarship Fund

    Gibraltar High School Student Council members are working to help their active, deserving members pay for post high school education through a new scholarship program.

  • “Men Mentoring other Men” Presentation Hosted by United Methodist Church

    United Methodist Church of Sturgeon Bay will host a “Men Mentoring other Men” presentation on May 9, 11 am – 2 pm. All men are invited to hear Harry F.

  • Adopt a Flower Pot in Sturgeon Bay

    A number of flower pots are available for adoption from the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center. By adopting a flower pot, individuals elect to purchase and plant flowers in a sidewalk flower pot which contributes to the overall beatification of Sturgeon Bay.

  • Do You Know a Helpful Heart?

    The Lakeshore Community Action Program is planning its Helpful Hearts Volunteer Celebration. Last year saw the good work of hundreds of individuals and volunteer groups in our community.

  • Districts to Use Common School Fund Library Aid

    Public school districts throughout the state will share $35.5 million in library aid, which was paid April 27 from the Common School Fund, the only state funding specifically designated for the purchase of materials for school libraries.

  • In Memoriam: Ellen R. Kort

    A Wisconsin literary hero, Ellen Kort, 79, died early on April 21 in her hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin; her long struggle finally subsided. I pray her final moments were as she predicted in the perfectly penned “If Death Were A Woman”: I’d want her to come for me smelling of cinnamon wearing bright cotton purple maybe hot pink a red bandana in her hair She’d bring good coffee papaya juice bouquet of sea grass saltine crackers and a lottery ticket … I am not alone in writing about Ellen as a friend.
