Island Players Stage Salute to Musical Comedy II

Salute to Musical Comedy II, the summer 2009 production of Island Players, will be presented at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center on Washington Island on July 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 pm. The show will present a sampling of America’s musicals as well as the best of Washington Island’s singers, actors, and production talent.

The 26 cast members will perform 20 numbers throughout the course of the evening. Some of the numbers showcase young performers, some showcase mature voices, and some combine all ages in large ensembles; however, all of the numbers pay tribute to the great American musical tradition.

Sound is crucial to musicals, and Island Players has been fortunate to be able to call on the expertise of one of the best sound experts in the Midwest – Bob Schwarz, who has experience with the Milwaukee Symphony and theater in the Milwaukee area. Schwarz supplied this production with state-of-the-art sound equipment and generously donated his time to help coordinate sound and lighting.

Jim Young designed the “floating marquee” for the set.

A talented quartet is guiding the production. Joyce Morehouse is artistic director, Joan Reynolds is music director, Kari Gordon is choreographer, and Joan Kuhn is producer.

Tickets for the show are $12 for adults and $6 for young people through age 18. Tickets can be purchased in advanced at the Red Cup or at the Washington Island Recreation Center. For advance sales by telephone, contact Joan Kuhn at 920.847.2689. Tickets will also be available at the door. This show is suitable for children of all ages.
