  • All opinions expressed in letters are those of their authors and not those of the Peninsula Pulse, its owner or staff.
  • Letter to the Editor: A Legacy of Lies

I believe that the big lie – Trump won – is built on a pile of Republican lies. Like your tomatoes, the big lie didn’t come out of nowhere. It has been nurtured through a series of smaller lies originating in the Republican Party.  We’ve been told repeatedly that trickle-down economics works, that tax breaks […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Nonpartisan Commission Would Cure Gerrymandering

We need fair maps. Nothing will change in Wisconsin until we get rid of gerrymandering.  Only then can we have debate in the legislature on vital issues, such as accepting a billion dollars from the federal government for Medicaid expansion and pandemic rebuilding. No, said the legislature, immediately adjourning a special session called by the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Legislation Supports Local Pharmacies

I was thankful to hear that our state legislature recently passed a bipartisan bill – which was then signed into law – that will benefit the health care of all Wisconsinites and lower prescription-medication costs at local pharmacies. According to Shane Resch, a pharmacist who co-owns several Wisconsin pharmacies and who wrote an article for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Don’t Forget the Circle of Honor Memorial in Liberty Grove

I enjoyed reading your timely article about veterans’ memorials in Door County [“A Guide to Door County’s Memorials,” May 29, Peninsula Pulse]. Unfortunately, the article overlooked one of the most significant memorials: the Circle of Honor at the Liberty Grove Historical Society museum site in Ellison Bay. The Circle of Honor, which is visible from […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Difference of Opinion on Leaf Blowing

Is it just me, or did the guy who posted about leaf blowers tick off anyone else who actually lives here?  If your mentality is that this is a place “where most people come to get away from the noise and hustle and bustle of city life” and that we should “be respectful of their […]

  • Letter to the Editor: No Struggle in Our Service to Veterans

A recent letter to the editor begging readers to rescue veterans’ services organizations, although probably well intentioned, totally missed the mark. The focus was not on our VFW Post 3088, but ours and others were mentioned as having the same struggle with finding new members. First, the writer has no authority to speak for our […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Not Feeling Represented by Current Legislators

Ron Johnson has no interest in following the truth, but he sure knows how to “follow the green,” as evidenced by the announcement of his scheduled attendance at the May 16 GOP fundraising Lincoln Day dinner.  Johnson, who lately has avidly chased conservative TV cameras in order to find a forum for the nonsensical untruths […]

  • Letter to the Editor: STR Elephant in the Room

We watched the YouTube livestream of the Sevastopol Plan Commission meeting May 11 and want to add the following comments: • Where is the data that has been used to argue for the need to restrict the number of short-term rental (STR) days to one stay in six days? Please share. That seems to be the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: It’s Time for Fair Maps

In 2018, Republicans received 46% of the votes cast in Wisconsin, but because of our gerrymandered political maps, they walked away with 62% of our seats in Congress. These results are blatantly wrong. Gerrymandering is wrong, no matter which party is responsible. It is manifestly unjust because it disenfranchises a substantial majority of voters. It […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Democracy Must Work for People

Rep. Kitchens’ recent survey is written with a bias. It’s not an honest attempt to get our views. He does not ask about gerrymandering, voter suppression or gun legislation – all huge issues.  We deserve fair maps, not party biased. Voter-suppression legislation, already proposed in Wisconsin, is an attempt to rein in our constitutional right and […]

  • Hospital Staff Makes Plea for Vaccinations

Door County Medical Center staff released the following joint letter Monday urging residents and visitors to Door County to get the COVID-19 vaccine. As physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants at Door County Medical Center, we feel privileged to be able to care for our community. In Door County, this means we’re caring for our […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Enjoyable Days of Learning in Honor of Mother Earth

A rousing thank-you to all of the individuals, businesses and organizations that gave generously to make possible the Every Day Is Earth Day events honoring Mother Earth on April 22, 24 and 25. The virtual program that took place on April 22 can still be viewed on the Kress Pavilion Facebook page. The documentary that […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Your Six-minute Call Can Help Protect Local Lands and Waters

This note is a request for six minutes of your time during the next few days to protect more of Door County’s exceptional lands and waters. Please take six minutes (three minutes per call) to call our legislators, Rep. Joel Kitchens and Sen. André Jacque, to ask them to support a 10-year extension of the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: GOP Support the Sanctity of the Vote

I’m writing this letter exactly 40 days after the election and 35 days after Joe Biden was declared the next president. The current administration continues to not accept this fact and to find any avenue to contest it. We have endured four long years with a leader who has the maturity level of a toddler, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Clean-Energy Economy Equals Climate and Economic Opportunity

There’s a multitude of reasons to support and participate in growing a clean-energy economy. There are many individuals and groups that are realizing it’s in their self-interest to “come to the table or be on the menu” when energy and climate policy are addressed. Youth, purple Republicans and the business community represent noteworthy players asking […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Sigh of Relief and the Way Forward

Now that 50-plus judges, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Wisconsin Supreme Court have found no reason to doubt the results of the November 2020 election in Wisconsin or elsewhere, we may finally breathe more deeply. The certified electors from Wisconsin will vote in the Electoral College along with other duly certified electors, and they […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Renew Your Commitment to United Way

I retired from Door County Medical Center in late 2016. While I was employed there, I participated in the hospital’s workplace giving program to support the mission and goals of United Way of Door County. Like many who retire and lose the easy option of workplace giving, I let my charitable giving slide for a […]

  • Letter to the Editor: United Way Needs Your Support

Most people have heard of United Way of Door County, and you know the great job it’s been doing for our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. You may have contributed to the Door County Emergency Response Fund or to the Door County Food Pantry Coalition, both of which United Way of Door County has helped […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Silence Won’t Protect Us

As I look at the madness surrounding our country, one has to wonder whether we will ever know peace again. These last four years – and especially the last nine months – have been mostly chaos, driven by a president with no moral compass, no empathy and incompetence on a large scale.  We are now approaching 300,000 […]

  • EDITOR’S NOTE: Glad You Asked

The proximity of community journalism is what has drawn me to this profession. There are no faceless millions here. The stories we tell and issues we cover are those of our friends, acquaintances and neighbors. If we don’t know them directly, we know someone who does. These connections alert us to collateral consequences of all […]
