Door Shakespeare’s education program, “Doorways: Creating Theatre for Children,” announced the 2010 schedule of classes. The goal of Doorways is to explore the power of creativity through developing original theatre through traditional theatre games, improvisation, and acting exercises.

This past Monday, I embarked on the first week of my seventh season with Door Shakespeare.

American Folklore Theatre’s season is officially underway in their outdoor Amphitheatre in Peninsula State Park. Embarking upon the 20th season of “theatre under the stars,” the stage will host Cheeseheads, the Musical, Life on the Mississippi and Bone Dance Life on the Mississippi will take audiences on a journey with young Samuel Clemens as he leaves his home in Hannibal, Missouri to be a cub pilot on a Mississippi steamboat in 1858.

Door Shakespeare continues the fine tradition of presenting professional classical theater under the stars in the beautiful garden at Bjorklunden. The troupe’s 2010 productions include Shakespeare’s romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing and Sheridan’s English satire The Rivals.

In celebration of American Folklore Theatre’s 20th Anniversary Season, every elementary, middle and high school student in Door County will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the world premiere production Life on the Mississippi this summer at the AFT Amphitheatre in Peninsula State Park.

A collaboration between the Southern Door Community Auditorium and the “Art of Music” presents: “Art on the Wild Side,” a day camp for kids. Young artists between the ages of 5 and 12 will have the opportunity to use their creativity to develop a story they can tell through visual and performing arts.

Summer is just around the corner and that means that it’s time for the sixth annual For Kids By Kids Theater Day Camp at Third Avenue Playhouse. Children ages 9 to 14 are eligible to audition for the camp at one of two sessions to be held on Tuesday and Thursday, June 8 and 10, from 6 – 8 pm at TAP.

Guys & Does, American Folklore Theatre’s smash-hit musical comedy about Wisconsin deer hunting, is moving to Door Community Auditorium this coming fall.

Despite the unforeseen circumstances that forced Merv Massey to withdraw from his role as Gardner in Painting Churches, the show will go on! Isadoora Theatre Company’s production will take the stage at the Ephraim Village Hall May 13 – 16 and 20 – 23 with Richard Ooms stepping in to the role.
