  • Letter to the Editor: Successful 58th Annual Door County House and Garden Walk

The Door County Medical Center Auxiliary would like to thank everyone for the huge success of the 58th Annual Door County House and Garden Walk which was held on Tuesday, July 31. The Walk is the Auxiliary’s signature fundraising event each year. We raised approximately $54,000 from the event which will be donated to the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Stolen Campaign Signs

Our campaign sign for Caleb Frostman is missing. The State Senator for the 1st Senate District is running for re-election in November. Throughout northern Door County along Highway 57, in Sister Bay, and north off Highway 42 neighbors are reporting missing signs. It really doesn’t matter whose sign is being stolen, or which political party […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Don’t Ruin the Dairy Industry

Peninsula Pulse Editor Jim Lundstrom claims that the dairy industry has hijacked the word “milk.” In Mr. Lundstrom’s commentary he quotes that “people are pervasively and systematically told to drink this substance at school.” “This substance?”  I ask is Mr. Lundstrom equating the act of drinking milk with “substance abuse?” “The Dangers of Dairy Milk […]

  • LETTERS: HELP Encourages Congressional Reauthorization of VAWA

In recognition of the severity of the crimes associated with domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. The current reauthorization expires on September 30th and is now up for consideration in Congress. VAWA has […]

  • Sen. Baldwin Stands Up for Humanitarian Values

In June I wrote a letter to the Pulse decrying the policy of our government in separating children from their moms and dads at our Southern border. Apparently a federal judge agreed with me requiring reunification of families and an end to separation. Though many families have been reunited, the problem remains that there are […]

  • LETTERS: Thanks for Supporting Grand Scandia Golf Benefit

We applaud the 163 local businesses and individuals who generously donated to the recent Grand Scandia Golf Benefit. All funds raised profoundly impact the lives of the 171 residents who call Good Samaritan Society-Scandia Village home. We are blessed to have the opportunity to serve those who reside at the Senior Living Community and fortunate […]

  • LETTERS: Vinehout is Best Choice for Governor

Let’s put aside the popularity polls and commentaries that focus on a candidate’s appearance and money to consider who is likely to accomplish what the people of Wisconsin need most: reliable health care for all, a livable environment, a sound economy, fine public schools, affordable post-secondary education, common sense gun control, programs to prevent discrimination […]

  • LETTERS: Support Marsy’s Law

As a survivor of violent crime, I’d like to express my sincere thanks to area Representative Andre Jacque for supporting Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin and taking the Stand With Crime Victims Pledge. His support means the world to survivors like me, and all of those who have joined the fight to better Wisconsin’s communities. In […]

  • Witch Hunt Underway in Sturgeon Bay

Bob Loss’s recent letter in the Pulse is nothing short of a hateful witch hunt against the women on Sturgeon Bay’s city council. He has been known to stir the pot of controversy in Sturgeon Bay political matters for a while now and continues to display a deep-seated hatred against these women. The other person […]

  • LETTERS: Politics Should Be Local

Out-of-state interests are pouring money into the upcoming fall election in an attempt to unseat our Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin. These interest groups don’t vote in Wisconsin, and they will not be represented by the eventual winner of that election. You do and you will be. You may have noticed some large blue and red […]

  • LETTERS: Seasonal Residents Should Participate in Local Government

In response to Mr. Jackson Parr’s “Commentary: Taxation Without  Representation” (20 July, 2018) our organization is very familiar with the refrain and have dealt with it off and on for almost 25 years. We agree, of course, with the one-man-one-vote rule of law as it applies to elected officials but we do see room for […]

  • LETTERS: Be Resilient Against Dangerous Decisions

These are certainly interesting times for news events with an update last night on the world news about President Trump deciding to subsidize farmers to help with more than $11 billion lost due to the tariffs he imposed and the resulting trade wars in the world economy. This is becoming an interesting pattern of our […]

  • LETTERS: No Boulevards Needed

I am a local resident and use our Fish Creek Town Park just about every other day. I walk my dog, hike along the creek to see what is new and take my bike through often. I had noticed that since mid-spring there were a lot of bushes along the way that were dangling in […]

  • LETTERS: Reckless Policies

Regularly we get reports of children being locked unattended in cars that are out in the hot sun with sad consequences. It is inconceivable that after all the warnings adults continue this dangerous practice. Although unrelated I get the feeling that the adults involved are about as mindless as those that stand behind President Trump […]

  • Letter to the Editor: And So It Goes

These last few weeks one has to wonder what is happening to us? Could it be something in the atmosphere, maybe something in our food or are we being gaslighted by the man who would be king? It feels like the whole country is living in a grade “B” movie that we can’t escape from. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Roadblocks, Manhunt, Lockdown

We, the undersigned, are very disappointed, frustrated and confused regarding the recent potentially unsafe disturbance in our normally serene neighborhood. In addition to the complete and total lack of coverage and reporting from our local papers, commonly referred as “news” media, the local radio stations only briefly mentioned the occurrence. We assume you are aware […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Tammy Baldwin Opposes Kavanaugh Nomination

If Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed as the next new Supreme Court justice, I believe we can see major troubling changes in our existing laws. After reading some of his past rulings, I don’t see Judge Kavanaugh as a moderate Republican such as former Supreme Court justices Sandra Day O’Connor, Harry Blackmun or retiring Anthony Kennedy. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Donald Putin & Vladimir Trump

Mr. President: I want to take this opportunity to apologize on behalf of an ungrateful nation for the horrible way that you have been treated following the Helsinki Summit, in which you and President Putin openly revealed the true nature of your affection for each other. This is a cruel and judgmental world, Sir, as […]

  • Letter to the Editor: New Spirit of Cooperation?

When the Granary was moved to the East side of the city, supporters placed an encouraging message on it, “A New Spirit of Cooperation.” Perhaps we could move on with some normalcy in our city, but sadly recent meetings of the newly elected City Council have damped my hopes. On July 3, after the council […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Where Does Governor Walker Stand on Protecting Water?

The Dairy Business Association’s John Holevoet recently stated that the DBA won’t apologize for pushing pro-dairy policies. He wrote this in response to an article by Lee Bergquist which revealed that the DBA lobbied Governor Scott Walker’s office to move regulatory authority of industrial farms, or CAFOs, from the DNR to the Department of Agriculture, […]
