  • Letter to the Editor: ‘Republican Headquarters Open for Business’

In response to Richard Woldt’s letter I see in addition to his encouragement to stop in and pick up signs, he invites constituents and fans of the elephant to tell us “what our candidates can do to gain your trust and hopefully your vote.” I think these candidates have already expressed their views and the […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Roundabouts Not Pedestrian Friendly

It is good to hear that the Ahnapee trail is completed to Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay. The pedestrian traffic this may bring reminds us of an experience crossing at the roundabout at Hwy 57/42 and Michigan Street last winter. We were walking westbound along the south pedestrian crossing and were almost run down twice. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for Making Safe Kids Day Possible

On Aug. 18, 2018, Safe Kids Day Door County individuals, organizations and businesses shared health and safety tips at the 2nd annual free and interactive event at the Door County Fairgrounds in Sturgeon Bay. Made possible by a Door County Public Health Wisconsin State Health Prevention grant, Safe Kids Day provided fun and informational tips […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Witches, Witches Everywhere

Mr. President, I must confess, Sir, that I am concerned. No, I’m more than concerned; I’m alarmed. In fact, I am downright terrified. If there’s a word that trumps “terrified” for how I feel right now, only you would know it since, as you’ve said many times, you “know the best words” and who are […]

  • Letter to the Editor: References Please

Two of the letters in the August 24th issue had me wondering where people get their “facts.” The letter from Judy Brodd claimed that in a recent poll 81 percent of Americans felt health care was the most important issue to be considered for the fall elections. The only poll I could find that had […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Another Story?

Thank you for the article [“Time to Be Honest About Milk” by Jim Lundstrom], I suspect you have taken some heat for it. These stories need to be told and told often. Dairy is under a lot of pressure. Did they do it to themselves…another story? We cannot live without farmers. What we all want […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Republican Headquarters Open for Business

Our Republican Headquarters is now open at 43 S. Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay, which is a short two blocks south of the Steel Bridge. We’re in the former Sonny’s Pizza building. Look for all the red lights and our elephant proudly standing in the window. Come talk to us about our candidates, the issues and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: What Is Our Future Vision for Farming?

Recently I had a great opportunity to attend a program sponsored by the Door County Environmental Council titled “Addressing Drinking Water Impact from Industrial Animal Agriculture.” The speaker was excellent and very informative, taking an important look at the environmental impact of this industry, which is second only to the burning of fossil fuels in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Why Tammy Baldwin Has My Vote

The race for Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate seat is heating up. Some of the TV ads that I’ve seen against Tammy Baldwin are filled with negative innuendo and outright mistruths. Here are some facts about Senator Baldwin and her record during her six years in the U.S. Senate. She serves on 12 Senate subcommittees. From January […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Great Walls

In about 220-206 BC the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered what is known as the Great Wall of China to be built. Its purpose was to stop incursions into China by nomads from inner Asia. It was a massive rock structure and probably required a lot of human and financial resources.  As it turns […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Tammy Who? You’ve Got to be Kidding!

In response to the “Tammy Who” letter (in the Aug. 24-31 issue of the Peninsula Pulse), why yes indeedy, I do believe the signs relate to Tammy Baldwin. Pretty astute, there. Somehow, though, I am having a lot of difficulty equating the time spent by supporters making the signs (not the candidate) and Senator Baldwin’s […]

  • Letter to the Editor: John McCain’s Call for Bipartisanship

Like many of you, I have been saddened by the passing of Senator John McCain. He has been a true hero for this country, not only because of the torture he endured during the Vietnam War, but also because of his stalwart voice in the Senate for decades. The eulogies given for him will mention […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Sturgeon Bay Street Work

Since last fall I’ve had a front row seat to water and gas line work on my street (Georgia). Starts at 7 am when they are here. Had gas line cut by contractor when I was out of town and almost came back to no home.  Next day, contractor nicked another line at corner. Have […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Vote to Keep Your Earned Benefits

In a recent poll, 81 percent of Americans feel health care tops the list of important issues voters will consider this fall. We know that Senator Johnson voted 90.8 percent with Trump and voted consistently to abolish the Affordable Care Act. Representative Gallagher voted 94.4 percent with Trump and voted consistently to abolish the Affordable […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Let’s Support Positive Choices and Our Dairy Farmers

I don’t often write letters to the editor, but I was so appalled by the huge ad, “The Dangers of Dairy Milk It Does the Body Wrong,” in a recent edition of the Pulse that I felt I needed to voice my concern. As I read the most recent edition of the Pulse, I saw […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Pig Wrestling Is Not Entertainment

On Sunday, August 19th, at the Valmy Thresheree the mud pig wrestling competition was held. Four-person teams chase a frightened pig in their attempt to catch it and put it on top of a barrel in under a minute. According to the publicity for the event, “Judges keep their eyes on the pigs to keep […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Non-disclosure Agreements

We have many government chief executives that interact with our lives every day; presidents of small villages like Sister Bay, Ephraim, Egg Harbor, mayors of cities like Sturgeon Bay, Algoma and Green Bay, the governor of the state of Wisconsin, the chief justice of our Supreme Court to name a few. What if each of […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Immigration Quiz

The following was excerpted from the “U.S. History” website page on immigration to the United States. The article has been redacted to disguise which countries the article is about, but see if you can guess which countries are country (A) and country (B). Answers at ushistory.org/us/25f.asp.   In ___, more than one-half of the population […]

  • Letter to the Editor: In Plain Sight

As Americans we have witnessed from the beginning of the Trump campaign to the present, an unprecedented number of alarming events. Mocking nicknames of his opponents, an affair with a Playboy Bunny, making fun of the handicapped, the size of his hands, grabbing women’s genitalia, ridiculing a Gold Star Family, a tryst with a porn […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thankful for Generous People

Last Sunday afternoon, while enjoying a beautiful afternoon of biking with my husband, I crashed off my bike and landed in a ditch near Frank E. Murphy Park at Horseshoe Bay. I skidded on my chest and face and felt dazed to say the least. I would like to thank the two motorists who stopped […]
