  • Letter to the Editor: Block Kavanaugh Nomination

Judge Brett Kavanaugh has a record which should particularly concern us on women’s health/equality as well as the expanded power of the Executive branch, which our clueless/pathological POTUS already hungers for to an UN-democratic degree. Block this nominee permanently, but especially before the Nov. elections (like McConnell blocked that of Merrick Garland who was eminently more qualified!).   […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Making Russia Great Again

In the past month the current president of the United States, a position that no longer carries the added honor of “leader of the free world,” has abdicated whatever moral authority he had left. The Greatest Generation defined itself by taking on the battle between fascism and democracy. As a result of that history post […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks to 5th Quarter Foundation

Thank you is a phrase individuals use to show gratitude toward others. There are times when the phrase does not seem to hold enough weight for the situation; this is one of those times. I have been working with Casey and Nicole Rabach for nearly a year, after the idea of a middle school Fitness […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Young Voters, Don’t Be Silent

Voting liberal or conservative or being a die-hard Republican or Democrat is our choice. However, we elected a President who changes  truth to rampant lying as the norm and destroys a person’s integrity at the drop of a hat. He demands 100-percent loyalty and is setting a dangerous blurred reflection on who we really are. […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The President is the Emperor with No Clothes

Why does the President of the United States act in such a bellicose manner when he is with world leaders. One good explanation is that “the emperor has no clothes.” He is naked intellectually, morally and socially, and he knows it. He covers his nakedness with bluster and anger hoping that his behavior will be […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Perfect Night for ‘Top of Kress’ Fireworks Celebration

We wanted to take a moment to say “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts, to all of those who took part in making our first “Top of the Kress” Fireworks Celebration a huge success. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening. We so greatly appreciate the use of the new Donald […]

  • Letter to the Editor: This Isn’t About MS-13

The Trump decision to separate children from their moms and dads isn’t about MS-13! It is about uniting the Trump “base” around hate, fear and racism. When did we become a country with such cruel values? This past week the Trump Administration revealed its failure and incompetence by admitting that the “zero tolerance” policy has […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Call Our Senators

Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court is appalling for several reasons, but the one that disturbs me most is his position on presidential power. The Executive Branch has been gaining power for decades to the point where Executive Orders rival legislation by our representatives. But Kavanaugh has suggested that he would go […]

  • Letter to the Editor: An American Tragedy

“Can you believe this is happening, Bruce?” people ask me, publicly and privately. “Every day, new revelations. The chaos, crises and conflicts are unimaginable! What do you think is happening here?” Wars and battles always have been fought over land and the bounty they can produce to make the elite even richer and more powerful, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Love and Pride

The sun was shining brightly and hearts were filled with love and pride, acceptance and openness at the second annual Open Door Pride Festival on Saturday, June 23. The festival was a culmination of the first-ever Open Door Pride Week, as proclaimed by Sturgeon Bay Mayor Thad Birmingham. Open Door Pride would like to thank […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Dogs in Hot Cars

My sister and I were leaving Walmart on Saturday. It was the worst humid day of the year so far. Two cars away from us we heard some yipping and small barking. Three small dogs were inside a black VW sedan, WI plates. Two of the dogs were leashed inside the car. The sunroof was […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Revolution

There may be many people in this country who have little or no concern about tariffs. Not true with our ancestors. They knew what tariffs were and they hated them. The Boston Tea Party sparked the American Revolution. The Boston Tea Party was singularly a revolt against a tariff on tea. That little hated tax […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Let’s Get Immigration Policies on Track

I am deeply concerned about the direction our immigration policies are going. When children are being used as political pawns and separated from their families, something is wrong. American values are being diminished and lost. However, one of our elected officials is stepping up. Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin believes tearing families apart is wrong and […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Natural vs. Crass Commercialism?

Hoping our welcome visitors this season will note the ratio between quiet parks, bluffs and beaches to the burgeoning of large billboards and signage along our main roads, then spend their time and dollars accordingly!     Gerri Friedberg Egg Harbor, Wis.

  • Letter to the Editor: Samara Jewelry Designs to Close after 37 Years

Dear friends and valued customers, After 37 years in Sturgeon Bay and much thought and deliberation, Greg and I have decided to retire from retail and close our store, Samara Jewelry Designs. The decision to close has been a very emotional and hard decision, but there is a time and season for everything. We have […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Thanks for the Chance

I’m very excited to be a candidate on the November ballot for the State Assembly 1st District and I want to send out a big “Thank you” to all the people who helped with circulating nomination papers, all who signed them and all the words of support and encouragement I have received from so many […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Separating Children from Parents

One rationalization often cited to justify the policy of separating immigrant children from parents is that if the parents never brought the children here in the first place they wouldn’t be separated. While logically true, this rationale is irrelevant, since the ones suffering most from this policy are not the ones that made the decision […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Four Pinocchios!

On Tuesday, June 19th, the Washington Post reported that Fact Checker assigned four Pinocchios to the Administration’s claim that its new “zero tolerance” immigration policy is the result of laws or decrees passed by others. “Four Pinocchios” means that the claim is a “whopper.” No laws have changed since April when the zero tolerance policy […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Let’s Protect Our Waterways

Last week the article “Single-use plastic has reached the world’s deepest ocean trench” published by UNEP-WCMC reminded readers that our waste is killing our wildlife. Our economy encourages us to make, use and toss at the greatest possible speed. Often, we don’t think about getting our coffee to-go in a foam cup, or food in […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Many Thanks to Everyone Involved in Celebrity Golf Outing

The Boys & Girls Club of Door County would like to thank all those involved in making our 9th Annual Celebrity golf outing a resounding success. The outing was held on Tuesday, June 12 at the prestigious Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in Egg Harbor. We have many to thank for the outcome of this event, […]
