  • Katie Dahl Plays Wednesdays at The Cookery

    The Cookery’s wine bar will feature Katie Dahl on Wednesday evenings at 8 pm throughout the summer starting June 26. Dahl is a Door County folksinger known for her sharp-witted lyrics, intricate melodies, and engaging performances.

  • Performers Announced for “Songs of Doc Heide” at DCA

    Doc Heide, co-founder of American Folklore Theatre (AFT), has announced the lineup for a special event at Door Community Auditorium (DCA) on July 23 at 8 pm.

  • Small Forest to Play at MacReady’s Bread Company Every Monday

    MacReady Artisan Bread Company and Small Forest (Jeanne Kuhns, Pat Palmer, Marybeth Mattson) team up for MacReady’s Music on Mondays, 4:30 – 6 pm. Small Forest will play on MacReady’s lawn every Monday throughout the summer season.

  • Lumberjack Cash Sticks Around after Steel Bridge Songfest

    Lumberjack Cash comes up for Steel Bridge Songfest as a songwriter and performer, and every year he sticks around for a week or two to play shows, enjoy Door County and play Frisbee golf.

  • Organist Erik Suter Returns to Door County

    Organist Erik Suter returns to Door County to present a concert of organ music at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church on June 23 at 7 pm. A native of Chicago and an internationally acclaimed musician, Suter served as organist at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC for nearly 10 years.

  • “The Glass Menagerie” Performances Begin at TAP

    The opening night performance of The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, is slated for June 26 at 7:30 pm at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP). The play will be performed through July 19, but the opening performance will benefit Ministry Door County Medical Center Dental Clinic; a portion of all ticket sales will be donated to the clinic.

  • Birch Creek Symphony Orchestra Begins Concert Season

    Birch Creek Music Performance Center opens its 38th concert season on June 27 with symphony concerts that run June 27 – 30 and July 4 – 6 and feature the Birch Creek Symphony Orchestra performing in the historic Dutton Concert Barn on campus.

  • Bjِrklunden Offers “A Song in my Heart” Seminar

    From July 21 – 27, Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden will offer the seminar, “‘A Song in my Heart’ with Dale Duesing.” Lorenzo Hart wrote, “I always knew / I would live life through / with a song in my heart” in 1929, but he might as well have been referring to Duesing, the Grammy-award winning lyric baritone and 1967 graduate of Lawrence University.

  • The Voices of Rock at DCA

    On July 6, “Elvis and Orbison: The Voices of Rock,” a tribute to two of music’s greatest legends, will be performed at Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek.

  • World War II Era Items Sought for Museum Display

    The Door County Historical Museum will feature a display of items relating to the World War II era on June 22 & 23, 10 am – 4 pm. This display began last year and new items were added, thanks to contributions by people with memories or artifacts of that time.

  • First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to Visit Ephraim

    The Ephraim Library Fund, Inc., will present its second Notable Women in History presentation on June 22. The program features Jessica Michna as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, in a fascinating “first person” review of her life and times.

  • Tea and Style Show at Fish Creek’s Old Town Hall

    The Gibraltar Historical Association (GHA) of Fish Creek is hosting another Tea and Style Show at the Old Town Hall. In collaboration with the Ephraim Historical Foundation, they are exhibiting wedding gowns from the 1850s – 1950s… one hundred years of silk and lace and pin tucks and bustles…perhaps created for families from northern Door County.

  • Mark Moran to Appraise Items at Heritage Village

    What’s it worth? That “family heirloom” or the junk in the basement could be worth something or nothing. To find out, ask appraiser Mark Moran on June 30, from 2 pm to 6 pm, when he visits Heritage Village at Big Creek.

  • Wine and Beer Meet at Door County Beer Fest

    “Really?” I thought when I saw Golden Knot and Crimson Crossing being offered at the Door County Beer Fest held on June 15. Perhaps you haven’t heard of the strange pairings of chardonnay and merlot, respectively, with wheat ale.

  • The Cheese Insider

    Brick cheese is a Wisconsin original, created in 1877 by John Jossi, a Swiss born cheesemaker. Jossi came to America in 1857 with his family as a twelve-year-old.

    Dear Mary Pat, I feel guilty. There has recently been an influx of lilacs throughout the Door Peninsula. I love the scent, the color, and wanted to fill a few vases with the beautiful spring blossoms.
