While you can always explore a trail or lake shore on your own, the calendar is dotted with guided hikes, wildlife tours, bird watching treks, and cross-country skiing meetups. Find a group bicycle ride, a naturalist session, or paddleboard tour and explore Door County’s natural wonders.

  • Chief Oshkosh Presentation Rescheduled for March 16

    March 16 at 2 pm, a free program sponsored by the Egg Harbor Historical Society will be presented at the Town Hall located east of Carlsville on County Road I.

  • EYC Announces Junior Group Sailing Lessons

    The Ephraim Yacht Club (EYC) has announced its junior group sailing lesson program for 2014. The EYC will offer junior lessons over a nine-week period beginning June 16, in four two-week sessions followed by a one-week session.

  • “Dahlias and Garden Tools” Discussed at Next Master Gardener Lecture

    At the March 4 meeting of the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society, the feature program is the The Higgs Field. Professor Ray Stonecipher will explain this invisible energy field and discuss the Higgs Boson which recently has become the media darling of particle physics.

  • The Weekend of Fire and Ice Returns

    Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center hosts the annual Fire & Ice weekend Feb. 15 – 16. Saturday will be filled with “cool” activities featuring a city-wide ice carving competition by local ice artists, along with professional carvers transforming large and small snow blocks into masterpieces.

    Explore Whitefish Dunes State Park in the winter during two upcoming events. On Feb. 15, join the Friends of Whitefish Dunes for a night of candlelight fun.

  • Take a Walk to Memorial Pole

    Join Peninsula State Park naturalist Kathleen Harris on a Winter Walk to the Memorial Pole on Feb. 15, from 10 – 11 am. Meet at the golf course parking lot, near the clubhouse.

  • Guided Snowshoe Hike at Ida Bay Forest

    Join the Crossroads at Big Creek naturalist on a guided snowshoe hike of the Ida Bay Forest on Feb. 15 at 10 am. Loaner snowshoes are available; come 15 minutes early to borrow a pair.

  • Another Wacky Winter Fest

    Fish Creek succeeded, once more, in hosting Door County’s wackiest festival – Winter Festival, held Jan. 31 – Feb. 2. This year’s frigid festival featured another line-up of untraditional games – minnow racing, toilet seat tossing, and snowshoe dancing as well as a raucous kick ball tournament.

  • Bikini-Clad Groundhog Predicts Winter’s End

    The Groundhog Day Parade stormed through Ellison Bay on Sunday, Feb. 2, with a beach-ready groundhog, who unlike Punxsutawney Phil, did not predict six more weeks of winter.

  • No Special Technique Required for Candlelight Skiing

    Newport State Park will hold its 23nd Annual Candlelight Ski/Hike/Snowshoe event on Feb. 8, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. A portion of trail will come alive by candlelight, guiding skiers, hikers and snowshoers into a glowing, magical winter wonderland.

  • Discover a New Trail on Snowshoes

    Join the naturalist in snowshoeing the new trails at Crossroads at Big Creek on Feb. 7 at 10 am. Loaner snowshoes are available. Come 15 minutes early to borrow our skis.
