    Gibraltar Fire & Rescue’s second annual fire station open house is scheduled for Oct. 26, 10 am – 2 pm. Visitors can stop by the Gibraltar Fire Station to meet local firefighters, take tours of the station and trucks, see a live burn demonstration and enjoy sloppy Joes from Alexander’s.

  • Altrusa’s Back-to-School Fair Helps a Record Number of Girls

    Providing educational tools and building self-esteem in young girls are important goals for both Altrusa Club and the Women’s Fund of Door County. Altrusa was the grateful recipient of a generous $1,000 grant from the Women’s Fund that was used to assist school-aged girls getting ready to return to the classroom.

    On Sept. 14, former local retail shop owners Debbie Frank and Angie McMahon will host the “Say Yes to the Paper Dress” benefit for We Are HOPE, Inc. The event takes place within McMahon’s barn, located at 2004 County Highway ZZ in Sister Bay, from 5:30 – 8 pm.

    The Door County Humane Society (DCHS) officially opens the doors of its new facility on Sept. 21, 12 – 4 pm, with the ribbon cutting ceremony at noon.

  • New Season Begins for Door County MOPS

    The Door County Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group will start a new season on Sept. 24 at 9 am at Prince of Peace Church in Sturgeon Bay. Open to all moms from their time of pregnancy until their child graduates from kindergarten, this year’s theme is “A Beautiful Mess,” embracing beauty in the midst of mothering young children.

  • Door County Service Club Coalition Announces Youth Mini-Grants

    The Door County Service Club Coalition announces Youth as Resources and Youth in Theatre grants are back for the 2013-2014 school year. The Youth as Resources program provides financial support to projects that use the skills, talents and abilities of young people to serve or educate others.

  • Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary Club Recently Hosted Colombian Student

    The Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary Club recently hosted Maria Angelica Romero, from Bogota, Colombia. Romero is part of a New Generations Youth Exchange for college-aged students between 18 to 25-years-old.

  • $109,000 Raised at DCMC Foundation Golf Marathon

    The 17th Annual DCMC Foundation Golf Marathon, held Aug. 28 at The Orchards Golf Course, was a success and raised $109,000 (a new record). To be eligible to play each team must raise a minimum of $2,100.

  • Sister Bay Lions Celebrate Memorial Boat Building Tradition

    The Sister Bay Lions Bill Steger Memorial Boat Building tent was recently set up at Marina Fest; during the past eight years, 1,875 children have built their own boats.

  • Taylor Schultz Graduates from RIT with High Honors

    Taylor Schultz graduated with high honors on May 17, 2013, from Rochester Institute of Technology’s (NY) College of Imaging Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual media and a minor in web design and development.
