  • Letter to the Editor: Personalities and Policies

In any election, many people vote for the person they like or the person who is opposing the candidate they don’t like. Personality and trust are the most important reasons why someone likes another person. This may be quite important if you think someone might become your friend, but in most cases, that’s not likely.  […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Demand Change

In the words of Harry Truman, “We need to wake up to the fact that we the people are responsible for the government we get.” What we have seen and experienced this year are lies, hypocrisy, an increase in fear and hate, and the untimely death of more than 200,000 of our fellow Americans.  This […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Haters and Truth

We are again hearing that President Trump refuses to condemn white supremacists. I did an internet search, and the results included this quote: “Racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold […]

  • Letter to the Editor: If We Can Keep It

Our founders spoke as “We the people” while also enshrining certain individual rights. Our legislatures (in theory) make laws to protect the rights of both the common good and the individual. These two concepts – individual rights and the common good – seem to be fundamental to many of our societal, political and cultural conflicts.  […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Vote for Biden is a Vote for Our Lake Michigan Fisheries

Growing up in Two Rivers in the 1940s, I had Lake Michigan as my playground. We went to the east-side pier with our cane poles to catch jumbo perch. By August, we would be fishing for northern pike, mostly with homemade lures. My sister won the contest for catching the biggest northern. By the 1970s, […]

  • Letter to the Editor: The Wonder of Capitalism

My nose was running like a faucet! I was in Europe and had come down with a cold like no other. Washcloth in hand, I went into a store to buy some tissue, but the only kind it carried was rough, with tiny bumps all over it. So I went to another store and then […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Slow-Walking Mariners Park

The Town of Liberty Grove seems to be moving at glacial speed in creating what taxpayers said they wanted for Mariners Park at Gills Rock. Nearly two years ago, town chair John Lowry and the town board proposed purchasing the (now) Mariners Park property for just under $1.5 million during a town meeting. Citizens had […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Need Four More Years? I Think Not!

This letter is directed at the letter titled, “We Need President Trump.” Sir, you appall me. You appear to be somewhat literate, yet like many of Trump’s followers, you choose to adopt every lie that spews from his mouth. Alternative truths and fake news were red flags to most of us, but you swallowed it […]

  • Letter to the Editor: A Role Model in Approaching Politics

In response to Sophie Parr’s well-written and thoughtful letter, “OK on the Dark Side,” published in the Sept. 28 edition of the Pulse, I would like to say, “Well said!” Thank you, Ms. Parr, for sharing your thoughts and for demonstrating how all of us should approach politics. May more individuals follow your lead! Patty […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Great Day, Great Deed!

I was enjoying a great day riding my scooter in Peninsula Park when it just died on me. My friend went to get the car, but we did not have a trailer, so I pushed it to a gravel road and contemplated what to do.  I knew Edge of Park Rentals rented scooters, so I […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Loser in Presidential Debate Was America

The loser in last night’s debate was America. Joe Biden stood strong against Donald Trump’s interruptions, bullying and attacks. He spoke directly to America and discussed real solutions while Donald Trump interrupted 77 times.  Trump is an embarrassment. He had nothing of substance to discuss: no plans, no policies, no results, nothing. So his only […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Women: A Call to Action

The stakes of this election could not be higher. Women have a vested interest in this historic election. There are powerful reasons to support a Biden ticket: Biden makes women’s issues a priority. • Biden, as a U.S. senator in 1994, championed the Violence Against Women Act. This legislation has tough provisions for offenders, allocates […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Vote ‘Yes’ on Fair Maps Advisory Referendum

Door County voters have the opportunity to weigh in on the side of good government on Nov. 3 when they vote for the advisory referendum: “Should the Wisconsin Legislature create a nonpartisan procedure for the preparation of legislative and congressional district plans and maps?” Recently the Fair Maps Task Force, the League of Women Voters […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Wait … What?!

Like other businesses, last spring we received notification of the “official guidelines” for the “safe reopening” of businesses – by industry – and it provided a checklist of requirements. It stated that any business (or feature within a business) that could not meet these guidelines must remain closed. It was clear that in order to […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Vote for Amanda Stuck for the U.S. House of Representatives

Name recognition! It’s no problem for the incumbent, but the challenger has to work hard just to introduce herself to voters. That’s why I want to emphasize her name: Amanda Stuck, running against Mike Gallagher for our district’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Amanda Stuck will truly represent the people of our district […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Vote for Fair Maps on Election Day

Thanks to the Door County Board of Supervisors, we can cast a nonpartisan vote on Nov. 3! Our ballot will include a referendum for a nonpartisan procedure for the preparation of legislative and congressional district plans and maps that will be in effect for the next 10 years. Backstory: The districts where we vote for […]

  • Letter to the Editor: We Need Real Relief from our Congressional Leaders

We are facing an unprecedented crisis as a community and as a nation. Our workers and their families are facing tremendous uncertainties, both in the workplace and at home. Now more than ever, we need clear and decisive leadership. We need leaders who will work for their constituents and help deliver the relief they so […]

  • Letter to the Editor: Just This Once

To my Republican brothers and sisters, I know that many of you had something else in mind when you voted for Donald Trump in 2016. You didn’t realize how things would turn out. That happens sometimes.  In fact, many would argue that this Republican Party isn’t their Republican Party at all; it’s the party of […]

  • Letter to the Editor: To All the Trump Naysayers

To the oh-so-typical lemmings who so frequently vent in the editorial section of this paper, I would like to ask one thing: Instead of merely echoing the worn-out refrain of “Trump lies,” could you please just cite some examples? You and others like you keep repeating this but never seem able to explain what so-called […]

  • Letter to the Editor: To the Village Board, Fire Commission and Community of Egg Harbor

I have long admired the men and women who protect and serve our community and country. My father was a WWII Army Air Force lieutenant. Anyone who heads toward danger instead of away from it to protect everyday citizens like you and me is a hero – not motivated by praise and awards but performed honorably […]
