Sister Bay Gets Donation for Pavilion Design
An anonymous couple has given $19,000 to the Village of Sister bay to pay for the design of a pavilion and performance center at Waterfront Park. In a letter committing the funds, the couple wrote that they would welcome the discussion of additional support for the construction of the facility.

Washington Island’s key Internet service provider is shutting down. Officials from International Broadband Electric Communications (IBEC) announced it will cease operations Jan. 16.

New Look – Egg Harbor Fire Station Completed
The Egg Harbor Fire Station renovation was completed in December. The station on Harbor School Road is jointly owned by the town and village of Egg Harbor, which split the $266,000 cost of the renovation.

School Board Candidates Announced
The raucous debate about educational expenses in 2011 didn’t create a rush of interest in the county’s school board seats. Southern Door’s school board race will be hotly contested, with a February primary to narrow the field, while Sturgeon Bay has just five candidates for four seats.

Ferry Line Traffic Down 5 Percent in 2011
Vehicle traffic on the Washington Island Ferry, the key barometer of business on Washington Island, dropped five percent in 2011. Passenger traffic dropped three percent.

The town will host an open house with staff form the Door County Planning Department on hand to discuss zoning maps and regulations now in place in the town as well as to discuss potential changes to the town’s zoning maps, particularly in Maplewood and the Village of Forestville.

Door County’s lodging sector is keeping pace with 2010, according to the latest room tax report from the Door County Tourism Zone Commission. Room tax revenue through October of 2011 is up 1.
